What is the esoteric circle?

After the first circle (exoteric) and second circle (mesoteric) we come to the third circle, which is known as the esoteric circle.

The term ‘esoteric’ comes from the Greek esoterikos, meaning "belonging to an inner circle". The word ‘esoteric’ means “very unusual and understood or liked by only a small number of people, especially those with special knowledge.”

The esoteric path is understood by a very small number of people. Even within the realm of spirituality there are not many people who are truly looking to achieve profound inner transformation.

If we do not have the need to want to change, then we do not take that step into the sphere of esotericism. This yearning is generated through the process of going through the different paths that we have outlined in this course, transitioning from the exoteric, to the mesoteric, to the esoteric.

Once we have encountered this sense of yearning and we learn about our inner reality through these teachings, the task becomes recognising the need for inner transformation. It is not enough to understand that we are an essence, a spark of divinity, we actually have to experience the essence for ourselves in order to have a true understanding of why we need to change.

Once we have come to this realisation, and we begin the intense work of profoundly transforming our interior, we have moved to the third circle.

Transitioning between the different circles

The transition from the mesoteric to the esoteric circle is very similar to the transition from the exoteric to the mesoteric circle. Both transitions occur when a profound realisation shocks the consciousness, triggering a shift in our perception of reality.

The more connected we are to our internal divine counterpart, the more removed from matter we are going to be and thus the less unconsciously we will act. And so the transition from the first circle (exoteric) to the second circle (mesoteric) happens when we come into contact with our identity outside of the realm of matter. When we realise that we exist beyond the identity of Peter, John, Mary, beyond our physicality, and begin to recognise our existence as a divine spark that incorporates within a physical embodiment, then we transition into the next sphere, the mesoteric circle.
We step into the mesoteric circle and continue our journey going through different systems of spiritual learning, trying a variety of spiritual systems across multiple lifetimes, and ultimately still experiencing a sense of unfulfillment.

These different systems help the essence in understanding its identity and purpose within the realm of matter. Once it comes to understand its nature and the predicament that it finds itself in, it realises that its purpose within creation is not just to live a mundane existence (depicted in the teaching of the wheel of Samsara). When the essence comes to this realisation it comprehends that it has become a mixture of divine and non-divine. This is the sign it is ready to make the transition to the third circle, the esoteric circle.

The essence comes to understand that if it is to realise its potential within creation and exercise its true purpose, it has to change its nature within the realm of matter. This requires inner self transformation.

Once we make that realisation then we have the ability to encounter the path that will free us from the Wheel of Samsara and return us back to the source we emanated from. The reason we are tied to Samsara is because we are attached to form and matter through the state of ignorance. Once we become aware of the existence of the spirit within us and strive to reconnect with this inner principle, we begin to change our state of our consciousness from one that is unconscious to one that is conscious. In doing so, we begin to free ourselves from the realm of matter and we swap the values of matter for the values of the spirit. We remember our identity as a divine spark and commence the process to free ourselves from the Wheel of Samsara.

Conclusion

There are many paths and many people who are treading those paths. Each of these has values to offer the world and their role to play within this process. Ultimately, though, the individuals treading these paths remain the same, they continue being as they have always been, but perhaps with a spiritual persona.

The true path of spirituality is for the essences that recognise the need for change.
